Open digital badges have become recognised globally as a means for structuring, recognising, rewarding and monitoring professional learning. In many countries badges are little used in Teacher Professional Development (TPD) at present, but in the workshops we have held with senior government officials and teaching professionals and in two pilot implementations we have begun to explore what roles digital badges can play. In this presentation I will present insight gained from an 18-month GCRF funded project that ended in November 2020, examine how this has contributed to the approach adopted in our current project, and provide an opportunity for discussion of the research data and policy-influence challenges when working in difficult-to-access, remote, or multi-lingual contexts.
