The quality of research produced by OU Music researchers was recognised through the Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise, the results of which were published earlier in December. Not only was the Music submission ranked highest of all those put forward by the University, but the result, as presented by Times Higher Education, rates the Department as 8th in the UK in the ‘Music, Dance and Drama’ category. An alternative analysis by the Guardian rates the Department as joint 1st. 94% of our submissions were rated 3* (‘internationally excellent’) or 4* (‘world-leading’). The impact of our research and our research environment scored 100% 3* and 4*.
