Robert Samuels, of the Music Department, will participate in a “Proms Extra” event this Friday, 12 August. He will be talking about Brahms’s Fourth Symphony with Laura Tunbridge of Oxford University, in a discussion presented by Andrew McGregor.
Brahms’s Symphony features the unusual musical form of a “passacaglia” or “chaconne” in its final movement, a form also explored by Webern in the other work of the second half of the concert, his Passacaglia Op. 1.
The discussion will take place as a pre-concert talk at Imperial College, near the Royal Albert Hall, and will be broadcast during the interval of the concert.
