Reading and studying literature (A230)

A230 on Google Earth

You can use Google Earth to explore for yourself some of the journeys featured in the works you will study.

Journeys in the long eighteenth century

This lets you follow the fictional and non-fictional journeys described in the four chapters of Part 2: Journeys in the long eighteenth century. Two versions of each of the journeys are traced:

  • By selecting the markers on the journeys, you can see eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century paintings depicting events and destinations two centuries ago.
  • By using the Google Earth application, you can see the routes and destinations on the globe as they are today. (Uncheck the 'Show map' check box in the top left corner of the Google Earth map.)
