September 10th, 2009SocialLearn announced (softly)
At the ALT-C conference (Association for Learning Technology) yesterday VC-Designate of The Open University, Martin Bean announced the upcoming launch of SocialLearn. As he said, softly. Because we are a little way yet from meeting the bigger vision.
The name of the conference, ‘In dreams begins responsibility’ is very true of this project of ours. We have so many big ideas and a responsibility to get them right or at least into beta! Yeats quotes seem to be following us round… ‘Education is not filling a bucket but lighting a fire’ also has a lot of meaning for the project.
I recommend the recording of Martin’s speech. We had another 30 people sign-up to the private beta and a few tweets.

I was at ATL-C and there was quite a buzz around the conference about socialearn and the principles it involved.

I listened to Martin Bean’s keynote speech via Elluminate and got really excited about future developments. I’m about to complete H800 and I’ve changed from sceptic to somebody who can now see potential in social learning; made me feel good about working for the OU, too.
