I was invited to give a talk at the first Open and Inclusive Special Interest Group meeting which took place on 11 February 2019.
The Open and Inclusive SIG is made up of two groups: OpenTEL and SeGA, an abbreviation for Securing Greater Accessibility (on a module). The event was open to member of these groups, and anyone who is broadly interested in the subjects of accessibility and inclusion. As The Open University celebrates its 50th anniversary and its mission of openness, Martin Weller, Professor of Educational Technology at the OU, will examine what the term ‘open’ means and consider what an ‘Open University’ would look like if we were to invent it now.
When the OU was founded 50 years ago, it established a model of ‘open education’ that went on to be successfully replicated in many countries.
