Would you like to share your research at a future CALRG/openTEL session?

Computers and Learning Research Group (CALRG) and OpenTEL | Open University Technology Enhanced Learning.

We are currently putting together the autumn term schedule for CALRG (October – mid-December 2025) and would love to hear from you if you’d like to share more on your research, or have suggestions for speakers. Sessions are usually held 11-12 on Thursdays, and are up to 60 minutes in total.

We are also planning to reintroduce our doctoral researcher showcase sessions. These enable doctoral researchers to share more on their work (5-10 minute short presentations, followed by Q&A/feedback) in a supportive space. Time can be used to give an update on your research, share emerging ideas and/or ask for feedback. Our provisional date for the first of this coming academic year’s showcases is Thursday 4 December 2025.

If you supervise doctoral researchers or are aware of other colleagues who might be interested in participating, please do share this invitation. If you would like to present at a CALRG session or the doctoral researcher showcase, or join the CALRG mailing list please contact calrg@open.ac.uk. We look forward to hearing from you!

How to prepare university assessment for a world with AI?

Abstract

“This presentation will explore the impact Generative AI is having on assessment practices in HE and ways that The OU can respond. We will share strategies we are taking in Learning Design to support Module Teams to: a) adapt approaches to assessment in the face of AI; and b) consider the opportunities and challenges of incorporating AI in module materials. There will be plenty of opportunity to discuss this important area.”

Bio

“Mary Simper and Eleanor Moore are Learning Designers in LDS and are part of a group of five LDs who are considering all aspects of Generative AI and the impact on module teams and students. Mary has a particular focus on Authentic Assessment and Eleanor is exploring ways to both adapt and incorporate AI into assessment practices.”
