Disabled students, ICT, post-compulsory education & employment: in search of new solutions

Organised and hosted by Jane Seale, Chetz Colwell and Tim Coughlan on behalf of the Ed-ICT International Network

Dates: 11-12th June 2019

Venue: Chicheley Hall Hotel, Newport Pagnell, England

The Ed-ICT International network has been funded by the Leverhulme Trust and spans the UK, Canada, US, Germany and the US. It’s aim has been to explore the role that ICTs—including computers, mobile devices, assistive technologies, online learning, and social networking sites—play or could play in creating barriers and mitigating disadvantages that students with disabilities in post-compulsory education experience both generally and specifically in relation to social, emotional and educational outcomes. The network has also examined how practices of educators and other stakeholders can craft successful and supportive relationships between learners with disabilities and ICT.  As part of this exploration and examination we have organised four international symposia in Seattle, Montreal, Tel Aviv and Hagan each focusing on one of the following broad themes:

  1. Effective models and frameworks
  2. Stakeholder perspectives
  3. New designs
  4. Effective transition practices

In this, Ed-ICT International Network fifth and final event we will debate and evaluate with a UK academic and stakeholder audience conclusions from the four workshops and the implications they have for identifying, developing and evaluating new opportunities for research and practice in the field.

The programme includes presentations from Sheryl Burgstahler director of the DO-IT Programme at the University of Washington, Seattle and Catherine Fichten Director of the Adaptech network In Montreal, Canada.

Organisers have free spaces available and can fund travel expenses (up to a maximum of £100) for up to 20 people. Preference would be for you to attend both days.
