Professional biography

I am a Senior Lecturer in Advanced Clinical Practice (part-time) and a PhD Researcher (part-time), funded through the ESRC Grand Union DTP Health and Wellbeing pathway.

I am a Registered Nurse (adult) with a background in community nursing and higher education.  I have worked across different regions as a District Nurse and Community Macmillan Nurse, and I still practice as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Out-of-Hours/Urgent Care.  I have also worked as Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing, teaching both pre and post-registration students.

My Masters’ degree in Applied Social Research explored District Nurses’ supportive role in palliative care and facilitated subsequent clinical-facing service development activity.

Through a practitioner-ethnographer approach, my PhD study aims to understand the nature, context and scope of District Nurses’ psychological support role in palliative care. I wish to illuminate this hidden work and reconceptualise the patient-carer-nurse encounter in order to understand what aids or hinders psychological support in this context.  It is hoped that improved knowledge and insight can guide clinical practice for the benefit of patients and their carers.
