Professional biography

Currently

I'm the Head of Research Strategy and Academic Operations in the Institute of Educational Technology at the Open University.   I provide professional strategic leadership for operational delivery of all research & research development (including OpenTEL & Digital Innovation), academic professional development (including APD framework, HEA accreditation, Research Careers Development and Concordat leadership), Scholarship, learning teaching technology management and policy actions of L&TI Academic (L&TI-A), including interpretation and articulation for L&TI-A business and financial planning / reporting and governance needs within the structures of L&TI.  I am particularly interested in making the connection across our research activities and implementing them into the university's teaching activity.

I've been with the university for just over 20yrs where I have been lucky enough to have worked across a great range of universities function.   I have been a Curriculum Manager within the arts faculty, taking course through a the full course production cycle;  I've been a Partnership Manager within Open University Worldwide managing the Singapore partnership; I moved into more project based work in Institute of Educational Technology working on online course production.

I'm a PRINCE2 and MSP practitioner and hold a Post-Graduate certificate in business management.  I have a BA Hons (2:1) in 3 Dimensional Design from the University of Creative Arts and a MA from the Royal College of Art where I studied ceramics and glass.   I was the Wedgwood Scholar and president of the students union. 

I've been awarded two OU teaching awards.  The first one was for developing and implementing a portfolio-based assessment to support reflective development, scholarly presentation and accreditation of professional experience; the second was for innovation and excellence in blended delivery of staff development.
