I am an ESRC Postdoctoral Researcher in Ageing and End of Life Care at The Open University.
Previously, I lectured in Sociology and completed my ESRC doctorate on palliative care in care homes at the University of Bath, Department of Social and Policy Sciences.
My research focuses on end of life care (EOLC), care work, old age and care homes.
My doctoral thesis explores EOLC practice in the English care home sector. It does so by combining quantitative and qualitative methods with feminist social reproduction theory and Foucault’s biopolitics.
My ESRC Fellowship focuses on developing my PhD findings for publication and research funding proposals in the related field of sexual and intimate relationships in old age living with dementia in a care home or at home.
In May 2022 I delivered the University of Bath Beatrice Godwin Memorial Lecture as part of the public engagement event Dying Matters Awareness week sponsored by Hospice UK. My research on death identification and patterns of social care provision in old age features in Social Science and Medicine.
Research interests: old age, end of life care (EOLC), palliative care, care homes, care work, dementia, sexuality, intimate relationships, social reproduction theory (SRT), biopolitics.
