Ford Madox Ford at the Bungalow,
Winchelsea, c. 1903. Welcome to the website of the Ford Madox Ford Society. This international society was founded in 1997 to promote knowledge of and interest in the life and work of Ford Madox Ford (1873-1939). The society organizes an active programme of events. Besides regular meetings in Britain, we have held conferences in Italy, Germany, and the U.S.A. Many thanks to those who helped generate the great success of the 2012 Parade’s End conference. Reading group afficionados, Benedict Cumberbatch fans, film-makers, amateur military historians, as well as a good few academics, converged on Senate House, University of London, for 3 days of Parade’s End-related conversation and film. Welcome to the two newest Honorary Members of the Society who have joined us since: Rupert Edwards, producer/director of the BBC’s Culture Show Special, ‘Who On Earth Was Ford Madox Ford?’, and Susanna White, director of the BBC/HBO adaptation of the novel, both of which aired autumn 2012. In 2010 we held our first conference in New York, and Mary Gordon’s illustrated lecture on Ford and Janice Biala provided a wonderful finale. In Genova, in 2007, we were delighted to be joined by A. S. Byatt and Colm Tóibín, each of whom delivered a Ford Madox Ford Lecture. Follow the link to see the write-up of this event in The Times newspaper. Since 2002 we have published an annual series, International Ford Madox Ford Studies, distributed free to members. Please use this site to find out more about the current volume, and back issues too, all of which can still be purchased. We also produce an annual newsletter, made up of news and reports of events, but also reviews and other pieces written by Society members. See the Newsletter Archive. If you are an admirer, an enthusiast, a reader, a scholar, or a student of anything Fordian, then this society would like to hear from you, and welcomes your participation in its activities. Details of how to join, and of how to contact the Executive Committee, the website editor, or the newsletter editor, can all be found here. Information about the recent BBC Culture Show Special, ‘Who on Earth Was Ford Madox Ford’, presented by Alan Yentob, can be found on the BBC website. Further information can be found here about the HBO/BBC Parade’s End, as well as the production company behind it, Mammoth Screen. Sara Haslam
