Managing My Investments

This module builds on the coverage of investment management and financial risks provided in the first module, Managing My Money. We learn about the array of personal investment products that are on the market. We explore the principles of managing an investment portfolio and the determinants of the prices of investment products like shares and bonds. We also examine the range of risks which relate to investments and how you can manage these. The module also explores the changes to state and personal pensions that have recently been unveiled in the UK.

The Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) of this module are:

  • To understand the principles of investment management
  • To understand how to construct an investment portfolio
  • To understand the determinants of asset prices, including equities and bonds
  • To understand state and personal pensions and on how to plan for an income in retirement
  • To understand the risks associated with investments – including credit and interest rate risk

In addition to the module text audio visual aids and tutorials are provided to help develop your understanding. A full glossary is provided to help you navigate your way through the jargon that is used in financial business. Self assessment questions - with feedback provided - are included to enable you to ascertain how well you are getting to grips with the issues and subjects explored in the module.

This module had its first presentation on FutureLearn in May/June 2015. It has had several further presentations on  FutureLearn since then. The next scheduled presentation starts on 20th August 2018.
