Dates

Location
The Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh EH99 1SP

The Open University in Scotland is pleased to support the event The NHS at 70 - Unsustainable? at the Festival of Politics 2018.

The NHS is 70 years old. Join panellists Gavin Francis, GP and author; Sue Cameron, broadcaster; Theresa Fyffe, Director, Royal College of Nursing Scotland; and Helen Puttick, Health Correspondent, The Times, to discuss whether Bevan and Beveridge’s vision of the NHS has stood the test of time, or is this jewel of the welfare state en route to becoming an unsustainable behemoth without swift integration, privatisation and reform?

What can NHS England and Scotland learn from each other? Is it possible to take the politics out of universal access to healthcare and put patient care and outcomes at the top of the health agenda.

This debate will be chaired by Pennie Taylor, freelance journalist and former BBC Scotland Health Correspondent.

Ticket prices are £6.00/£4.00.  To book tickets and for more information, please go to the Festival of Politics website.

There is a range of free learning on the NHS on the OU's OpenLearn site, such as What do you know about the NHS' history? and NHS: A People's History.
