The Open University Department of Economics is ranked excellent for quality of teaching by the Quality Assurance Agency. Its modules in economics and personal finance are core to various qualifications, including the BA (Honours) Politics, Philosophy and Economics, BA (Honours) Business Studies: Economics pathway, BSc (Honours) Economics and Mathematical Sciences, BA (Honours) Combined Social Sciences: Economics pathway and Foundation Degree in Financial Services. Our teaching achieves very high rates for overall student satisfaction in the National Student Surveys.
The Department of Economics research has an international profile, with projects funded by UK research councils, charities and international institutions such as the European Commission and United Nations agencies. Topics include the economics of industry and innovation, gender, health, human capabilities, personal finance, and international development, as well as political economy and macroeconomics. Economists are members of the Open University Research Centre for Innovation, Knowledge and Development (IKD) and the Centre for Identity, Citizenship and Governance (CCIG).
