Any specific updates on travel during covid-19 please see appropriate tabs to the right. Please visit the current guidelines on travel & transport from the government.

Travelling during covid-19

  • The University position on travel remains unchanged and that is, no travel unless absolutely business critical.
  • Staff need to consider the most COVID safe method of travel.  So it would be perhaps better to travel by car than on the train / tube.
  • Staff also need to use their judgement whether a journey is necessary and also be mindful that the different nations have eased restrictions to varying degrees.  So if travelling to a nation check the local restrictions before they plan their journey and task.

Travel Advice provide information and advice for staff and visitors commuting to Walton Hall. We recognise that parking can be tight and that it is a duty of the University to help staff who wish to 'green' their travel. We provide information and advice on travelling to University premises by different types of transport and University initiatives, such as the car sharing scheme. For information on and advice commuting to Nations & SRSCs please follow the links below:

Travel Plan

Our policy is contained in the University Travel Plan which is central to the role of an institution in reducing traffic congestion, accidents and the environmental impacts of the transport activities of their staff, customers and visitors.

Car Parking Strategy

The aim of the Car Parking Strategy remains an appropriate balance between supply and demand and whilst it preserves the strong links with the Travel Plan.  Its recommendations are tilted towards day to day management and possible future supply options rather than large scale additional provision.

Travel Survey is now open!

The current focus of the Travel Advice team is to understand the mindset of OU colleagues in relation to travel and the impact that Covid-19 has had on our evolving New Ways of Working. The purpose of this Travel Survey is to gauge how people’s attitudes to travel have changed since working at home and how behaviours are likely to differ in terms of travelling to and from places of work.
