Skill Up funded courses

The Open University in Northern Ireland, in partnership with the Department for the Economy, is offering a limited number of fully funded postgraduate courses to help you upskill and reach your career potential.

The Skill Up programme aims to provide reskilling and upskilling opportunities to people across the north, improving skills, benefitting employment opportunities and enhancing Northern Ireland’s continuously growing and diversifying economy.

What you can study

There are currently 14 postgraduate courses funded through the Department for the Economy’s Skill Up initiative.

Postgraduate courses take six months to complete and provide skills and knowledge that can bring real-life benefits to you and your career. We recommend setting aside 16–18 hours for studying each week.

To prepare for postgraduate study, we strongly advise all applicants to complete our Succeeding in postgraduate study course on OpenLearn.  This 24-hour badged course clarifies the expectations and demands of Master's-level study and will help you develop crucial skills like critical thinking, academic writing, and time management, which are vital for success.

What our students say

The qualification has had a monumental impact on my career. It’s opened doors that I wouldn’t have had access to otherwise. Without the funding, I probably wouldn’t have studied again. It gave me the chance to shift my career and pursue something I was passionate about.
