Guidance on completing the application form

ALAPP5 is the current version of the application form - 11th June 2021

You should gather the following information in order to complete the application form:

  • The vacancy advert
  • The generic person specification for the role of associate lecturer.
  • The module person specification for the vacancy you are applying to tutor (This can be found on the module details link attached to the vacancy advert or from the OU Modules page here.)
In general, ensure that you cover everything about yourself. The panel can only shortlist you on the information given in the application form and cannot take into consideration any information that you may have supplied in a previous application. If the information is not included on your current application then you cannot assume that the panel will know any of this information or anything about your capability or experience.

It is recommended you keep an electronic copy of your form. Your form must be submitted as a single Word document.

Tip – to check a box, double click the box to display a pop up which allows you to select checked or unchecked.

Section A Vacancy Details: Please enter the module code as per the vacancy advert. If you are applying for more than one module, you will need to complete and submit an application form for each module.

Section B Personal Details: For external candidates, please ensure you have provided an email address as, with the exception of the invite to interview letter, all correspondence will be sent to you electronically.

Section E Generic Person Specification: Addressing how you meet the generic person specification is a key part of the selection process and the shortlisting panel will be testing your application against the skills, knowledge, education and experience set out in the generic person specification.   Ensure that you highlight all of your wide-ranging skills and experience. Think carefully and creatively about your transferable skills from other employment, or from non-employment experiences. Existing associate lecturers no longer have to demonstrate how they meet the generic person specification.

Section F Module Person Specification: Please note that as well as addressing the generic role person specification you must also provide details and evidence of how you meet the module specific person specification. If you only address one of the two person specifications (generic and module) then your application will not be successful.

Section G References and Declaration: Please type your name in the signed field beneath the declaration; this is your electronic signature.

Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form: For administrative reasons we require your date of birth to progress your application. The monitoring form will be detached from your application before it is considered by the selection panel.

Continuation Sheet: Please include here any further information relevant to your application. N.B. CVs will not be considered in the recruitment process.

Please email your completed application form by the published close date to AL-Applications@open.ac.uk. It is important that the subject header of the email includes the module code your application is for e.g. AA100 AL application
