Professional biography

Prior to taking up the post of Staff Tutor with The Open University in Jan 2020,  I was a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health for over 10 years working predominantly within nursing programmes, but also teaching mental health theory and skills to GP's, student Paramedics and trainee Physician Associates.

My broad areas of interest within HE are curriculum design and development, practice based learning and the impact of organisational culture on student learning. I have a particular interest in liminality, professional socialisation, transition and threshold concepts in mental health nurse education, and also closely follow developments in military psychological trauma, working with psychosis and student mental health.

As a practitioner I worked in a number of clinical roles for over 15 years- treating veterans suffering with psychological injury, working within an intensive psychiatric rehabilitation service and working in acute in-patient psychiatry.

I have a MA in Education by Negotiated Learning (Distinction), (PGCE, PGDip Health and Social Care Education route), a BA (Hons) in Philosophy, and I am a Registered Mental Health Nurse.
