OU PhD student on Forbes 30 under 30 Europe List

OU Space Science PhD student, Hannah Sargeant, has been named on the Forbes Annual 30 under 30 Europe List for Science and Healthcare, announced on Tuesday 17 March 2020.

This, the fifth annual list, features the latest class of young entrepreneurs, disruptors and rising stars from across Europe

The Forbes announcement stated:

“While we recognize that we are in an unprecedented time of global uncertainty, the 2020 Under 30 Europe list spotlights entrepreneurs who are making a difference, creating businesses with purpose and leading their respective industries.”

Hannah is celebrated for adapting a method to extract water from Moon dust using a much simpler approach than ever before, which has been tested on lunar samples and simulants in preparation for one of the first missions to the South Pole of the Moon in 2025. This revolutionary mission to produce water on the Moon has never been done before and has the potential to be ground-breaking for furthering space exploration.

Commenting on been named, Hannah said:

“It’s great to see that research into space resources is being recognised and valued in such a public forum. I have really enjoyed working on this project for the past few years and I’m excited to begin my career in the space resources industry as we prepare for long-duration missions to the Moon and beyond.

“I’m honoured to be a part of this year’s Forbes 30 Under 30 European cohort, but I would like to emphasize that there are many incredible researchers that I work with that are so deserving of a place on this list. The future of space science and technology is definitely in great hands!”
