Professional biography

Filippo Boni joined the Department of Politics and International Studies as a Lecturer in October 2019. Previously, he was a Teaching Fellow at the University of Birmingham (2017-2019) and a Visiting Fellow at the University of Nottingham Asia Research Institute. He is the author of “Sino-Pakistani Relations. Politics, Military and Regional Dynamics” (Routledge, 2019) and the co-Editor of the journal Asia Maior. You can follow him at @FilippoBoni1.

His main research interests include the International Relations of South Asia; the politics of Chinese investments in South Asia and Europe under the BRI; the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and civil-military relations in Pakistan. 

He has presented his work to both academic and non-academic audiences, including the LSE South Asia Summit, as well as the PhD workshop and the South Asia Advisory Board Meeting, both at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. He was Associate Editor (2017-2018) of the journal Contemporary South Asia.    

Teaching interests

Filippo has taught in the past both Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses, including International Relations Theory, International Relations of the Middle East, Theories of Global Politics and International Politics of East Asia, among others.  

At The Open University, Filippo teaches the module DD211 "Understanding politics: ideas and institutions in the modern world".

He is happy to discuss dissertation and research proposals on any topic related to:

- The politics of Belt and Road investments (including Europe)

- Domestic and international politics of South Asia
