I am currently chairing the production of a new Geography module, which is due for completion in 2021. I am also a Centre Manager for the Joint Distance Education Consortium's MSc in Urban and Rural Planning. Before arriving at the Open University, I obtained a PhD from the University of Helsinki and worked as a Tutor at the University of Warwick and as a Research Associate at Goldsmiths College, University of London.
I am a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and the recipient of the Design Studies Award, granted by the Design Research Association and Design Studies journal. I have also conducted research for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, as well as given invited talks for policymakers and practitioners within and outside the UK.
My research and writings fall broadly within social and cultural geography, revolving in particular around three closely related areas:
(1). Mobile pedagogies: I have a longstanding interest in the continuous learning, unlearning and relearning of everyday urban mobility among different groups, especially children and families. My work explores the transformative potential of such pedagogical moments for rethinking contemporary systems of travel and transport in cities.

Design geographies: My recent research engages with architecture and design to investigate the knowledges and methods deployed by practitioners to shape urban environments that are responsive to the diverse bodies that inhabit and pass through them. I am specifically interested in the ethics and politics of built form.

Experimental methodologies: I have increasingly approached geographical enquiry as an experimental endeavour, where participants and researchers compose temporary set-ups to momentarily disrupt the practices of each other in order to reveal new possibilities in the everyday and explore more involved modes of social science.
