Professional biography

Patrick is a Lecturer in Education. He joined the College in December 2022 after spending over 12 years working in Initial Teacher Education in the UK. He worked for 4 years as Lecturer in Science Education at University of East Anglia. After that, he assumed the role of Senior Lecturer in Roehampton University in London.  

Patrick trained as a primary school teacher in Dublin.He completed his  PhD in 2019 in science education, exploring the transition between primary and second-level science and the impact of cognitive acceleration programmes on pupils’ development and engagement. He has published and presented papers and book chapters on several of her interest areas, which include the Cognitive Acceleration through Science Education (CASE) programme, links between knowledge and confidence in the teaching of science, and pre- and in-service teacher wellbeing.
