Writing retreats for level 1 students

  • Project leader(s): Victoria NicholasPaul Collier
  • Theme: Supporting students
  • Faculty: STEM
  • Status: Current
  • Dates: August 2022 to August 2023

Students frequently cite time pressure as a challenge to successful study. This project will explore and evidence the impact of ringfenced writing time for students. In addition to the usual planned tutorials and tutor support, tutors will offer mini writing retreats to provide ringfenced writing time in advance of TMA deadlines. We will conduct a stratified study across Level 1 modules in STEM using control groups and compare student outcomes. One of the planned stratifications is to offer this intervention to low IMD students in a tutor group. The anticipated benefit of this approach is expected to an increase in TMA submissions and scores for those students involved. This contributes to on module retention and student success
