Sue Pawley

eSTEeM Director - Sue Pawley

susan.pawley@open.ac.uk

I am a Senior Lecturer and Staff Tutor in the School of Mathematics and Statistics. I have a degree in Mathematics and Engineering and a PhD in Theoretical Mechanics from Nottingham University. I joined the OU in 2005 as an Associate Lecturer and became a Staff Tutor in 2014. Since joining the OU I have been involved in mathematics support and am currently a member of the Sigma Network Steering group, which encourages networking and sharing of good practices in mathematics support across universities. My current scholarship interests include the effect of maths anxiety on STEM students and creating communities of support through social activities.

Diane Ford

Senior Manager, Scholarship - Diane Ford

diane.ford@open.ac.uk

I studied for my undergraduate degree at the University of Derby and hold a BA (Hons) in Law with European Studies. I joined the Open University in December 2005 when I worked as Centre Secretary for the two STEM focused Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETLs). This was an externally funded initiative by HEFCE which ran for 5 years. I have worked for eSTEeM since its creation in 2010 and currently occupy the role as Senior Manager, Scholarship. I am required to oversee the operational, financial and administrative elements of eSTEeM.

Rachel Redford

eSTEeM Centre Support Assistant - Rachel Redford

rachel.redford@open.ac.uk

I joined the Open University in 2009 from a background in the legal, training, learning and development sectors, which inspired my passion to work in the education sector and for lifelong learning. I worked in Student Services for 5 years, giving enhanced advice, guidance and support to students and training staff. I have been in the STEM Faculty since 2014 providing administrative and project support for eSTEeM's Centre for STEM Pedagogy, in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), EDI, STEM public engagement and citizen science activities, as eSTEeM's Centre Support Assistant. I was seconded to Citizen Science Project Officer and Citizen Engagement & Online Learning Officer for STEM, EEES and KMi for a Horizons 2020 European project during 2020-2023 and am now back with eSTEeM. My student journey on the BSc Honours Psychology Degree has been challenging, enjoyable and rewarding in equal measure, and this continues to nurture my profound respect for all our OU students.

Jonathan Evans

eSTEeM Project Officer - Jonathan Evans

jonathan.evans@open.ac.uk

I joined the OU in March 2021 to assist project teams in eSTEeM gather and analyse data. My role is just developing! In my past, I have taught in Further Education and managed an Engineering Curriculum; worked as a consultant in the development and roll-out of VLE systems in colleges and small businesses; and, more recently, I have run my own business.

My first degree is from the University of Durham in Engineering Science and I have completed one OU Masters module (I will finish it one day!). I also have a range of teaching qualifications in the post-compulsory education sector.
