Join us in a unique event in The Hidden Gardens in Glasgow, home of TOTEM LATAMAT for the duration of COP26.

This is a free in-person discussion hosted by Border Crossings at The Hidden Gardens in Glasgow.

TOTEM LATAMAT by Totonac artist Jun Tiburcio, has travelled over 9000km from Mexico to the UK to finally get to Glasgow. For the duration of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) it will be in The Hidden Gardens between 28 October - 14 November 2021.

A panel from Indigenous and non-Indigenous backgrounds, who have different but complementary perspectives on Climate Change, will explore the meaning of the totem’s journey to COP26, and its presence at The Hidden Gardens. This will be an engaging and lively conversation, that will enable reflections post COP26.

The panel will include:

  • Graham Harvey, Professor of Religious Studies, The Open University
  • Stephen Peake, Professor of Climate Change and Energy, The Open University
  • Friends of the Earth speaker to be confirmed
  • Indigenous voices contributors to be confirmed

The event is free and places are limited. Please register to confirm your place on the Eventbrite page for Totem Latamat and COP26 - a reflection on the journey so far
[Please note this in-person event is now SOLD-OUT, but there is a TOTEM LATAMAT event on 19 November in Dumfries, available to join in-person or by livestream.]

TOTEM LATAMAT is commissioned by Border Crossings’ ORIGINS Festival, co-presented by Centro de las Artes Indígenas with the support of The Open University and the Embassy of Mexico.

There is a wide range of free online resources exploring climate change and the importance of COP26, on the OU’s free learning site OpenLearn
