The COP26, in Glasgow, will bring together parties from across the world to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The Open University is hosting a unique event at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) as one of several initiatives to mark its commitment to responding to the climate crisis. In an internal Go Green event chaired by Prof. Nick Braithwaite, VCE sponsor for sustainability, you can meet our speakers.

The event takes place on Sunday 7 November at 1pm. You can tune in to the livestream below, or visit the COP26 YouTube channel.

The 90-minute series of short reflections on 'Ancient Knowledge and Modern Thinking: Climate Perspectives in Folk Art' is held in partnership with Glasgow Life. These reflections will feature Indigenous artists and experts from the OU and Glasgow Life, exploring connections between culture, citizens and climate by examining three contrasting works of art from Glasgow Museums' World Cultures collection.

The Open University has official observer status at COP26 and will learn from the conference to inform the university's wider sustainability mission and inspire students and staff to take action. In the spirit of inclusivity, OU staff were invited to apply for observer passes in Prof. Nick Braithwaite's August sustainability bulletin. Nearly 40 applications were independently evaluated by a small team including MarComms and OUiS. Preference was then given to Scotland-based staff to both keep the OU's business travel emissions low and to support the roll-out of ISO20121 on Sustainable Events for this year's COP. The observer team has met for regular briefings and each member brings unique background, expertise and perspectives which will be shared across the OU.

Watch out for our 'Meet the observers' Go Green events over the following weeks.
