Hire an intern

Internships can help you. There are many benefits to hiring interns, including employee retention and increased productivity.

You might expect interns to work on short-term projects, develop social media campaigns, organise events and develop marketing or promotional materials for some examples.

Santander Universities SME Internship Programme

The Santander Universities SME Work Placement Programme is one of the best run programmes for supporting businesses to enable opportunities for real-life work experience that is paid, to students.

Tammy Marie Smalley of Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust

In partnership with Santander Universities, we run an internship programme which supports small and medium sized organisations (SMEs) to engage students and graduates on short term placements. This flexible scheme is a great way to attract and retain the very best talent.

This programme is open to small and medium sized enterprises with 250 employees or less, and which have an annual turnover of £50 million or less. You must be registered and based in the United Kingdom. Read our FAQs for more information and to complete an expression of interest form.

Virtual internships

Offering in-person internships can be a challenge from lack of office space to access to the right talent. We are providing a new approach to work experience: virtual internships.

A virtual internship is a work placement that can be undertaken remotely, where the intern could be based at home. You can communicate with each other through various online methods, such as Skype, email and instant messaging.

Benefits of virtual internships are:

  • Access to a wider talent pool
  • Reduced costs and overheads
  • Flexibility for you and the student
  • Break down diversity and social barriers

Contact us if you’d like to know how we can help you to hire a virtual intern.

Support our Disabled Veterans Scheme

As part of the Disabled Veterans Scheme, we’re looking to provide placement opportunities for 100 veterans to help them develop their skills and progress their careers. These students are looking for a variety of roles in a range of sectors and locations. Recruiting a placement student could be a fantastic opportunity to get started on a project that you have not had time to do or provide extra support in your organisation.

The veterans provide a unique skill set to your company, including:

  • Leadership
  • Adaptability
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Specialist subject knowledge

Placement opportunities can be flexible; as a block, ad hoc days, virtual or work shadowing. By offering a placement you are helping veterans to find the right employment to help them achieve their career goals.

Contact us if you would like to find out more about how to offer a placement and support this scheme.
