Description
John Forster was an English writer, historian and editor. During his lifetime he edited publications including the Foreign Quarterly Review, The Daily News and the Examiner. He wrote several histories and biographies including one about Oliver Goldsmith. He was a close friend of Charles Dickens and published a three volume biography of him shortly after his death. His vast book and manuscript collection included original copies of Dickens' novels. The collection was bequeathed to the South Kensington Museum (now known as the V&A).
