Ashton Oxenden was an English Anglican vicar who became the Bishop of Montreal, Canada, from 1869 to 1878 when he was forced to resign due to ill health. After returning to England he became vicar of St Stephen's Church near Canterbury and then rural dean of Canterbury. He wrote many works of a theological nature which proved to be very popular, including with the poorer classes.
