Description
Admiral Sir Charles Napier was a British Naval Officer. He served during several conflicts including the Napoleonic War, the Syrian War and the Crimean War. He became a Liberal MP in 1841 and promoted reform in the Navy including improving working conditions and the development of iron clad warships. He was appointed Naval Aide-de-Camp to Queen Victoria the same year. He died at the age of 74 and is remembered by a memorial in St Paul's Cathedral.
