Description
Joseph Payne was an English educationalist and reformer who believed education could transform society. In 1845 he opened a successful school in Surrey. Following his retirement he wrote several textbooks for schools. He also supported the education of women and was one of the founders of the Women's Education Union as well as being a member of other societies and associations that worked towards educational reform.
