About

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw the temporary closure of many arts, cultural and community venues, facilitators and teachers have worked hard to transfer the work they would normally do face-to-face to the online world.

The Open University has decades of experience in teaching online, and since 2006 has been one of the leading providers of Creative Writing modules and qualifications. Through this short course, delivered in three 1.5-hour sessions, we are delighted to share this expertise with freelance Creative Writing tutors and facilitators, as well as those who aspire to develop this aspect of their skills. The course is also open to anyone working in community education settings, such as museums, community centres or visitor attractions.

Our facilitators

The course will be delivered by two experienced Open University Associate Lecturers who specialise in Creative Writing:

Dr Nicola Harlow is a published novelist and broadcaster living in West Yorkshire’s Bronte country. Her research interests lie in the rendering of setting and imagery in contemporary crime thrillers as well as creating accessibility in distance learning.

Dr Irene Hossack is a published poet and review writer. She has been an Associate Lecturer at The Open University for over 17 years, with a specialism in online and distance education.
