Join OU Trips for a winter visit to Iceland 

Our fully guided tour will take us around the North, East and back along the South coast, taking in the highlights of the Icelandic scenery and culture.

NOTE: We cannot promise snow and the Northern Lights but we've picked one of the most popular months for both according to the Icelanders!

Day 1: Travelling from OU to London via coach, and flying into Keflavik and then transferring to Reykjavik domestic airport for an internal flight to Akureyi in North Iceland.

After arriving in Akureyri airport we will transfer to the Kea Hotel Akureyri for 1 night. Located in the heart of the capital city of north Iceland, Hotel Kea is just steps from the centre of Akureyri and its attractions including the stunning swimming pool and hot pools. The well equipped rooms are classically designed, bright and airy with all modern comforts. The hotel’s bistro and bar have an excellent menu and wine and cocktail list

Day 2 Spend today exploring the Diamond circle route, consisting of Godafoss waterfall, Husavik, Asbyrgi canyon and Dettifoss waterfall, before finishing the day with a dip in the Myvatn Nature Baths.  Staying overnight in Myvatn Fosshotel Mývatn is located in spectacular surroundings north of the magnificent Lake Myvatn. The hotel is designed by award-winning architects and features low-environmental impact materials. All rooms feature modern amenities are en suite and feature Wi-Fi access. There is also a spacious restaurant with views over the lake on the ground floor.

Day 3 Explore Lake Myvatn, before continuing to Grjotagja Lava cave, Dimmuborgir Lava fields and Kalfastrond, before finishing at Egilsstadir in East Iceland. 

Hotel Eyvindará "your shelter in the forest", occupies a pretty and peaceful wooded setting - a rarity in Iceland! The hotel offers guest rooms in the main building and in the annex. As well seven cottages. All rooms in the standard building have an en-suite and modern interior. The rooms in the Annex have an en-suite as well as a private terrace with a seating area. The cottages are made up of one bedroom with a bathroom and an outdoor porch. Some of the cottages have a small kitchenette. The hotel is just 2km from Egilsstaðir. Enjoy a walk in the hotel's own little forest or hike to the nearby waterfall Fardagafoss.

Day 4 Continue along the Eastern Fjords, visiting Djupivogur village and Vestrahorn mountain, before checking in to your hotel in Skaftafell National Park.  2 nights at the Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon, a modern hotel located in Hnapavellir which is right between Skaftafell and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.

Day 5: Staying a 2nd night at Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon as there is much to see and do in the area: walking in the stunning Skaftafell National Park and discovering the Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon with its immense icebergs.

Day 6: South Coast Head west, stopping along the way at Fjadrargjlufur canyon, Katla Ice Cave and Reynisfjara Black sand beach, before continuing to the famous waterfalls of Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss. Continue to Hotel Ranga for the next 2 nights.

Day 7: Golden Circle: Comprising a trio of natural wonders, this is possibly Iceland's most famous route. Thingvellir National Park with its lake of the same name, the ancient assembly site and Law Rock, which is also known for its flora and geological features. Visit Gullfoss, the hot springs and geysers at Geysir and, if time permits, historic Skalholt church.
 
Day 8: Reykjanes peninsula and depart Iceland 
Return to the airport, visiting Kleifarvatn lake, Krysuvik and Gunnuhver geothermal areas and the Bridge between 2 continents.
