New Paper alert: Cortuk et al 2023 "Late Cretaceous -Paleogene tectonothermal evolution of Akdag Msasif in the central anatolian crystalline complex

Cörtük, R.M. Çelik, O.F., Özkan, M, Marzoli, A., Halton, A. and, Sherlock,S. (2023) Late Cretaceous – Paleogene Tectonothermal Evolution of the Akdağ Massif in the Central Anatolian Crystalline Complex. Journal of Asian Geology, 255, 105775

In this recent publication using Ar/Ar data produced by the Ar/Ar lab at the OU, the metamorphic and cooling history of the Southern Akdag Massif were studied.  Geochronology on amphibole and muscovite minerals are combined with fieldwork, thermobarometry and chemistry and suggest rapid exhumation and a cooling rate of about ~40°C/Ma. The paper concludes that the exhumation of the massif was fainalised by the Late Paleocene-Early Eocene and that this rapid exhaumation is bets explained by tectonic effects rather than being purely erosional.
