Rapid reskilling and upskilling in the workplace

Sometimes in the workplace new projects or new job roles require employees to learn or refresh their skills quickly and efficiently. This might be brushing up on a language they last practised at school, or something to build knowledge around a new technology, customer, market or sector. A short, focused learning programme can play dividends and help the organisation succeed.

This is made possible through new short courses from The Open University. Providing high quality and affordable off-the-shelf learning for employers and busy working professionals, our online short courses benefit from years of expertise in distance learning from the Open University.

Our interactive learning platform allows us to deliver at scale with the added benefit of enrolling anytime and studying at a pace which suits you. With access to expert tutors, learner discussion forums, quizzes and digital badges, these short courses provide the perfect balance of high quality learning and tutor support with flexible self-study to schedule around other priorities.

Our new short course offering includes the latest training in key areas of communications, cultures and languages and upon completion all learners receive a digital badge and certificate to showcase their learning and newly acquired skills.

What’s new to the offering?

As a response to the rapid uptake of artificial intelligence across most areas of business and society, we are delighted to launch a new short course in Artificial Intelligence called AI Matters. This short course puts artificial intelligence into context and provides vital and up to date training for leadership and management with no prior knowledge of AI. With case studies and perspectives from multiple sectors and industries, you’ll understand the recent and disruptive uptake of AI, the ethical considerations when working on AI projects and why it’s something all leaders need to understand, irrespective of the sector you work in.

Or perhaps it’s time to invest in your business relationships? Our short course in Chinese Business Culture Essentials has been produced to support the development of successful and long-term relationships with China and develop an appreciation of the deep cultural values which permeate through Chinese business and society. It goes beyond the do’s and don’ts and will empower you to make the very best impression. Beyond China, our Intercultural Competence for the Workplace course builds the skills you need when working across multiple cultures at work, whether it’s virtually and in-house or externally with clients, project teams and stakeholders. The course will develop managers and leaders’ abilities to effectively mitigate, manage and succeed in the modern workplace.

Finally, if it’s language skills you need, our short courses in Spanish, French, German, Italian and Chinese will bring you up to speed. Whether you’ve studied it before or need to start from scratch, courses are available at varying levels to suit you.
