CPRL Annual Conference 2021

The Annual Centre of Policing Research and Learning Conference on “Resilience in Policing and Publics” was held last month (26th to 29th April). It was a fantastic few days with a great array of speakers with contributions from academics, public sector, and police practitioners.

The conference reflected different perspectives in furthering our understanding of resilience, whether it was planned, adaptive or everyday resilience. With its mix of keynote speakers, parallel sessions, workshops and lightening talks, delegates were able to explore new research findings, discuss their relevance and applicability to policy and practice, and share good or interesting ideas between policing and across policing and academia.

Each day of the conference dealt with different types of resilience important to policing and the publics that included resilience of the pandemic; resilience, health and the environment; organisational resilience; digital resilience; and, the resilience of evidence-based approaches. The programme afforded great opportunities to hear from a range of renowned speakers from across both policing and academia.

Running the conference online this year meant that we were joined by international speakers from as far as Tasmania and America. The virtual nature of the conference also enabled us to host a greater range of delegates over the three days with over 160 delegates registered. There was a lot of positive feedback from delegates who liked the online nature of the conference as it meant that they were able to attend which they would not have been able to do if it had been in a face-to-face event. If you missed the conference, please note that the recorded presentations and associated slides will be made available through the Members Area of the website soon.
