The role

UK policing is facing a wide range of operational and organizational challenges, some because of a changing society and some due to internal organizational problems.   These are expected to have far-reaching consequences in the coming months and years ahead. Such challenges will likely necessitate organizational changes and improvements across all of policing to increase its legitimacy with the public and its benefits for  society.   As a result, the number and range of research projects running in the Centre for Policing Research and Learning is increasing, and we are keen to increase our capacity to expand the high-quality actionable research that increases the understanding of policing and benefits the 24 police agencies which are members of the Centre.

The Research Fellow role is a one-year fixed term post to work on research projects in CPRL. The role will involve working collaboratively with police practitioners and with academics on multi-disciplinary research projects. The Research Fellow will work closely with the team of Directors, working to Dr Nicky Miller (Director of Knowledge into Practice) as line manager. The successful candidate will play an active role within the Centre team, contributing to the creation and delivery of research and knowledge transfer material and events.

It is expected that they will support the research requirements of the Centre by carrying out and helping design empirical research projects, organize and undertake fieldwork within the CPRL and enable a proactive  approach to opportunities for research funding by applying for research grants, as well as contributing to high quality publications.
