Willen Hospice Learning Club Session

Dr Owain Smolović-Jones and Dr Fidèle Mutwarasibo, both from the Centre for Voluntary Sector Leadership, facilitated the first learning club session of the senior and middle management team of Willen Hospice on 8 October 2019.

The focus of the session was the material covered in the first four modules of the course: Introduction of Leadership in the Voluntary Sector.

Participants shared their learnings from the online courses with colleagues and based their discussions around three main themes that emerged from the research on voluntary sector leadership by academics from The Open University (wicked issues, energy in leadership and leadership ethics).

There was overall agreement on the need for collaboration in leadership, the involvement of staff and other stakeholders in the leadership, the case for succession planning and a need for keeping an eye on the environment the voluntary sector organisations are operating in.
