Funding opportunities for internal staff

The Citizenship and Governance Strategic Research Area has the opportunity to fund small research projects which relate to one or more of our five streams or to the overall themes of Citizenship and Governance.  The streams are:

  • Belonging and Faith in Law (Led by Prof Simon Lee)
  • Collaborative and Inclusive Governance (Led by Prof Leslie Budd)
  • Gender, Intimacies and Sexuality (Led by Prof Jacqui Gabb and Dr Avi Boukli)
  • Justice, Borders and Rights (Led by Prof Umut Erel)
  • Public Leadership Management (Led by Prof Edoardo Ongaro)

To be eligible for funding, the projects should be of high quality and make an identifiable contribution to the preparation of a research grant bid (please specify the timescale and intended grant-making body).

In particular, we encourage external grant bids to sustain research and governance so seedcorn funding is primarily intended for pilot projects and capacity-building. Although our support is provided primarily to two faculties, the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Business and Law, in principle, anyone at The Open University is free to apply so long as their proposal relates to Citizenship and Governance research.  We would like to encourage interdisciplinary projects. Grants will not normally exceed £3500.

We usually publish calls twice a year. Please keep checking our website for updates or subscribe to our mailing list.

Contact the Citizenship and Governance team if you would like more information or to discuss ideas.
