Developing Staff

As an educational institution, we have a strong commitment to providing learning and development opportunities for staff to enable them to be effective in their roles and to fulfil their potential.

Everyone working at the OU needs to know something about equality and diversity. Staff working directly with students need to be able to respond to a wide range of needs and circumstances. Staff that develop learning materials need to know how to create inclusive and accessible resources. Managers need to know how to manage a diverse workforce effectively. Some staff need more specialist equality knowledge, such as those involved in advising others.

Staff Learning Opportunities

man pointing to WordleAll staff need to know about their responsibilities under the Public Sector Equality Duty (Great Britain) and the Section 75 duty (Northern Ireland).  Our online Equality Essentials training for all staff, provides more details of institutional and individual responsibility.

In addition to a number of training opportunities and specialist briefings, staff can study a range of OU learning modules and qualifications that address issues of equality, diversity and inclusion.
