Technology can be used to enhance Geography, Earth and Environmental Science learning in a range of situations; from providing fully online experiences to aiding hands-on work in the field. It can provide us with the tools to create powerful, flexible and engaging learning experiences, but there are also challenges as we strive to explore how best to use the technologies and how best to support our students.

In this free workshop we will share some experiences of using technology to enhance and support student learning in three areas:

  • Technology Enhanced Learning Online – including GIS and 3D virtual fieldwork
  • Online Assessment and Marking
  • Technology for Fieldwork Learning

We will explore some of the possibilities that technologies provide for learners as well as the challenges that arise for teachers. The event aims to bring together those interested in technology enhanced learning in the GEES subject areas, looking at the use of both in field and online learning, and using a range of technologies, from low to high tech, bespoke to off-the-shelf. The workshop will involve some hands-on work as well as demonstrations and discussions.
