Chasing criminal suspects using drones

Topic Description

When criminal suspects are being chased by law enforcement agencies on the roads, police helicopters are sometimes deployed to help finding and tracking the suspects. With the advantage of looking down from above and possessing search equipment such as a strong flash light, night vision camera and communication link with the ground personels, helicopters are very effective in finding and tracking the criminal suspects. However, their deployments are very expensive and hence can only be used on serious cases.

With autonomous flying vehicles (also known as drones) becoming more advanced and cheap to deploy. Will they be a low cost alternative to police helicopters? This research project is to investigate the feasibility of using drones for searching and tracking one or multiple human suspects in various environments such as in countryside and urban areas.
