Lois Damptey

 

Lois Damptey is a PhD researcher in the Department of Engineering and Innovation at the Open University, UK currently investigating the use of low-cost photocatalytic materials for wastewater treatment in Ghana. Lois was currently awarded the best PhD student runner up at 2022 OU research excellence awards in her university. She was also currently awarded Ghana’s best youth excellence in science and engineering.  

Lois serves as the Director of the Sankofa Mentorship Hub - Synergies Institute Ghana  and the Secretary for Vacation Initiatives in Science Africa, both NGOs, actively focused on the use of innovative and fun activities to advocate for STEM education. She and her team currently completed a 2-year collaborative project known as STEM4AFRICA funded by The Royal Academy of Engineering, Engineering X project award where they empowered rural schools with practical STEM education in experiential engineering education such as building robots, circuit systems, solar panels etc. Lois serves as a tutor in Brilliant Club and a former alumni of Soapbox Science-Milton Keynes 

Lois got selected among 1000s of young early career researchers to present her research at the UK House of Commons for the prestigious STEM4BRITAIN in 2020.  In the same year, she was listed as 1 of 74 Ghanaians who inspire Ghana (Those Who Inspire) due to her passion for STEM advocacy targeted at inspiring next generation to pursue STEM related opportunities among others.
