Coaching for performance

This course provides a robust and easy-to-follow framework for developing your practical skills to help you as a manager coach for performance. Through a structured sequence of reading, video study, skills practice and reflective assignments this course is primarily aimed at those who wish to develop skills and knowledge in performance-focused coaching in their workplace.

Developing better teams

This course gives practical advice to those who want to improve how their team works together, and looks at how to challenge teams that are already performing well. Through a series of micro case studies, the course looks at real-world team challenges. You will explore and commit to implementing creative ways of team working and team leading. By the end of the course you will have an action plan for enhancing your team.

Adult health, social care and wellbeing

Death and dying

This is a revolutionary module in which you’ll engage with real issues based on the experiences of dying people, bereaved people, those who work with them, and their careers, both lay and professional.  This module will be of interest for anyone who works with dying people and their families or students who want to find out more about death, dying and bereavement, and what these mean in different contexts.

Living psychology: from the everyday to the extraordinary

In this module you will learn how psychologists have studied both practical and theoretical issues, such as nationalism or sexuality, with a particular emphasis on understanding and solving problems that directly affect people’s lives. You will also develop your understanding of psychological research methods, along with other useful academic and employability skills.

Mental health and community

This module examines how aspects of the external environment (e.g., social, environmental, economic and political factors) shape and constrain our understandings and experiences of mental health and distress. It explores the theories and concepts that underpin and challenge mental health practice and service provision and looks at the impact of the frequently competing perspectives that characterise the world of mental health.

People, work and society Access module

This access course covers a broad range of subject areas, including children and young people; health; law; management; psychology; and social science to prepare you for a range of qualifications. You’ll study four themes: Individuals; Families and relationships; Organisations and communities; and Society. It will also gently introduce you to computing and online learning; and essential study skills needed for higher education.

Perspectives in health and social care

Studying this module will help you get to grips with three important areas which affect us all - health and wellbeing, mental health and ageing and later life. You’ll be introduced to some of the key concepts, theories and debates and explore a rich mixture of real-life case studies, audio-visual material and academic texts, all developed by experts drawing on cutting-edge research.
