On Thursday 15 June CPRL held an in-person Engagement Day with our partner forces at The Open University. This included a lecture presented by Martin Hewitt QPM, with discussants Andy Cooke (His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services) and Andy Marsh (Chief Constable and Chief Executive of the College of Policing).
We are recruiting for a Research Associate to join our Centre for Policing Research and Learning to work on a project which is focussed on evidence-led prosecutions in cases of domestic abuse.
Ben will start his new post by scoping out and setting up research opportunities as part of the Centre's proposed commission to improve the legitimacy and trustworthiness of policing in the UK.

The Policing team have had a Studentship accepted by the Faculty. This provides a tremendous opportunity for someone to work on a funded project entitled "Stress and decision making – the link between trauma, culture and misconduct in policing", with Matthew Higgins and Sarah-Jane Lennie leading the work.
Senior police leaders were on campus in Milton Keynes for four days at the end of April. This follows CPRL winning a contract late last year to deliver an innovative programme for the College of Policing’s National Police Well-being Service (NPWS).
On 10 May 2023 the OU hosted the Driving Change day conference, entitled ‘Distracted driving: time to refocus’, co-funded by the OU and the Road Safety Trust.
On Thursday 15 June 2023 we will be holding the inaugural Steven Chase Memorial Lecture. This is named after the former Chair of the Centre for Policing Research and Learning at The Open University.
CPRL was well-represented at the recent conference of the International Research Society on Public Management, with a panel of papers on policing and public management and some presentations on co-production in public services, on public leadership and on valuing public innovation.
