Description
Charlie, at thirteen, was a non-reader. He had been given four years' remedial help with reading, but when he first visited the Centre for Learning Disabilities, he could identify only three letter...s — A, 0 and X. At the Centre, under the guidance of David Moseley (who also acts as consultant for the correspondence text of this Unit) Charlie's reading rapidly improved. The programme records his progress over several months and illuminates some of the techniques available to a specialist teacher intervening in the learning process. Besides David Moseley and Charlie other voices heard in the programme are those of Charlie's mother, Asher Cashdan, Senior Lecturer in Educational Studies at the Open University, and Edward Milner, the producer who acted as Charlie's interviewer.
