Geoffrey island of the Open University together with Douglas Barnes and Harold Rosen, authors of 'Language, the Learner and the School' published by Penguin (1969) (which is a set book for the course School and Society) look at what is thought to be the right kind of knowledge for the classroom and why as a result of this selection, children may have greater difficulties in class than they need have.
