Description
Canon Hennell examines the evangelical movement in the Church of England at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century, with special reference to the work of Charles Simeon at Cambridge,... and William Wilberforce in politics. He shows how a movement which began from personal piety had its impact on society through the abolition of the slave trade, the development of foreign mission and the initiation of factory legislation and humanitarian reform.
