Description
In 1539 there was an exchange of views between a Catholic cardinal and a Reformation leader which (not without personal barbs) covered the main areas of disagreement. The disputants were John Calvi...n and Cardinal James Sadoleto of Carpentras. The Cardinal began the debate by writing to the people of Geneva urging them to return to the Roman Church. Calvin was deputed to answer him and replied with a long and closely argued letter attacking Sadoletofs position and restating the reformer's case. From these letters the programme recreates a dialogue between the two men, Using their actual words, translated from the Latin by Dr. Francis Clark, it underlines the main points in dispute and captures something of the flavour of Reformation controversy.
